Leading high-performing teams

Effective teamwork can add great value to an organisation, and the leader’s role is crucial in developing effective collaboration and in helping the team achieve its goals. This day explores three aspects of highly effective teamwork. First of all it looks at the characteristics of high-performing teams, then at the stages teams move through in order to perform at a high level, and finally it considers the leadership behaviours that will facilitate this growth. The workshop is designed around three key questions.

  • What do high-performing teams look like?
  • How do high-performing teams grow and mature?
  • What is required of the team leader?

During the final session of the day, there is the opportunity to reflect on the learning from the day and how this can be applied in practice.

Before the day, participants are asked to read a chapter from LaFasto and Larson’s book.

This summarises the results of the authors’ large-scale research project in which people working in teams were asked to share their perceptions of what made for good and bad working practices. Prompt questions guide reflection on the reading in relation to participants’ own experiences.

The follow-up task is an article on John Adair’s model of action-centred leadership. This complements and extends the work carried out during the day.

What previous participants have said about the day:

I appreciated the excellent facilitation by the tutors and the different, practical activities that we were engaged in, I will try to ensure that I reflect on how I lead different groups of people in my college

I will certainly be matching theory to practice and also be implementing some of the ideas I have gained from others today

Currently we are offering this day for £175 or you can book this session as well as another session at our discounted rate of £300 for a limited time only

N.B the fee for Leadership Pathways already covers the cost of two skills days. You only pay for a third or fourth day.
