NPQML


This programme facilitates you developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours to be a high-performing middle leader in schools.

Who is this for?

The National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership (NPQML) is for those who are, or are aspiring to become, a middle leader with responsibility for leading a team such as, a key stage leader, a curriculum area leader, a pastoral services leader, a subject leader, a special educational needs coordinator (SENCO), or a head of department. This includes those who are, or are aspiring to be, a middle leader with cross-school responsibilities e.g. a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE).

What does it include?

  • challenge and support via an experienced coach and/or mentor

  • access to high-quality resources, drawing upon up-to-date research and evidence

What will you learn?

Each of the NPQ’s feature the same six content areas, however the knowledge and skills within a content area increases in sophistication, depth and breadth progressively through each of the NPQ levels

  • Teaching and curriculum excellence

  • Working in partnership

  • Managing resources and risks

  • Increasing capability

Final assessment

You will complete a school improvement project within your team, lasting at least two terms aimed at reducing variation in pupil progress and attainment and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of teaching within your school.

to learning about the six content areas, NPQML participants are required to evaluate their strengths in each of the following seven behaviours:

What does it involve?

EMLC will deliver NPQML via:
  • A Half day induction that will share an overview outlining course content and expectations, available support and assessment criteria

  • Three face-to-face days facilitated by expert school leaders and associates covering areas of importance

  • Support for school-based improvement projects with interactive sessions

  • Opportunities for discussion and debate with peers and active support from colleagues

  • Opportunities to stimulate and challenge thinking alongside access to online course resources, facilitated coaching, skype sessions, peer learning and social media links

*Online modules offer a carefully constructed balance of activities that engage participants and stimulate research, reflection and discussion. A personal facilitator supports and challenges each participant. There are 14 hours of facilitated learning over a two-week period. NPQML has three two-week online modules.
