National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL)

EMLC is proud to be an accredited provided of the National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL). As an experienced provider of leadership development, we offer a high-quality programme designed and led by educational and business experts.

The EMLC programme will:

  • Stimulate and challenge your thinking about executive leadership maintaining the focus on improved pupil outcomes.
  • Build on your key skills and knowledge to help you transition from headship to executive leadership.
  • Promote and improve your leadership behaviours and capabilities.
  • Enable you to lead successful organisational development and sustainable school improvement across more than one school.

Who is it for?

NPQEL is designed for those who are leading more than one school, or are aspiring to become, executive multi-academy trust leaders (MAT) and chief executive officers (CEOs) with responsibility for Leading across Several Schools.

Curriculum Framework is built around 6 content areas and 7 leadership behaviours

Guided Learning Hours

The expected number of guided learning hours for the NPQEL is 183


Funding is available to support teachers and leaders working in opportunity areas and category 5 and category 6 areas to take the new NPQs.

This funding will cover full course costs, and all teachers and leaders in these areas are eligible for this funding (provided they have not already studied for the NPQ for which they are applying). You should contact EMLC for further details on how to access this funding.

How to Book Your Programme – What Happens Next

If you are not sure whether this is the right programme for you get in touch with us. Call us on the number at the bottom of the page or complete the contact form and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

If this is the programme then this is what happens next:

  • Register your interest so that we have your details and can keep you informed. Contact us with any questions.
  • Complete the application form that you will find at the bottom of the page.
  • Once we have received your application, we will check it for completeness and accuracy.
  • We will then confirm that you have been accepted on to the programme.
  • We run the programme in ‘cohorts’ so that we have a group of similar people who will work at a similar rate and can support each other, exchanging ideas and sharing experiences. Consequently we will hold your application until there is a full cohort of about 12 to 18 participants.
  • We usually start a new cohort about 3 times a year and we will contact you with dates and details when ready.

We will expect payment on acceptance of your place. This may be through a scholarship, funding through your school, or self-funded.
